Visual art has been one of the most evocative forms of expression since we inhabited caves. As Fine Art happens to be amongst the asset categories we collateralise for our unique secured asset loan at peer-to-peer lender Unbolted, we thought it might be timely to flag up some interesting new artists who are poised to produce some fabulous art of considerable value – both aesthetically and financially!

Alex Jackson

This young American artist from New Haven, Connecticut took his BFA in Painting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently at Yale University studying for his MFA. His mesmerisingly vibrant images are rooted in the history of black representation, especially in the area of traditional and historic portrait painting. Jackson explores issues of social inclusion and racial identity in his work, a project he acknowledges is driven by his own quest for self-definition and self-invention. He has also been a resident at two highly prestigious art schools: the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art and Music. Definitely one to watch.

Cornelia Baltes

Born in 1978 in Mönchengladbach, Germany, Cornelia combines a cheeky sense of humour with an impressively sophisticated command of painting. She graduated in 2011 from the UK’s Slade School of Fine Art in London and now divides her time between Berlin and London, having attracted an enthusiastic audience for her audacious sculpture-meets-painting environments. Some of these feature traditional canvases hung at peculiar angles (as in her solo “Turner” show at Sunderland’s Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art). She breaks down the traditional barriers between viewer and curator and between installation and two-dimensional art, with paintings mounted on casters that can be rolled around. Her work as an exhilarating originality to it, and she’s virtually certain to enjoy an amazing 2016.

Thomas Nemec

After graduating from Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts and the Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands, this young artist has been described as a neo-impressionist. By his own admission, he takes his inspiration from his immediate reality, blending his personal history into his pictures openly and without correction. His work has been widely exhibited in Europe in both group and solo shows and has been sold to collectors across the world.

Marguerite Humeau

Born in France in 1986 but now living and working in London, Humeau’s ravishingly arresting work deftly straddles design, technology, science and art. A graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven and London’s Royal College of Art, she possesses an avid talent for bringing conceptual ideas to vibrant life: her most famous work, for example, recreated the vocal anatomy of dinosaurs and generated the sound of their voices!

Art dealers will be keeping a watchful eye on these up-and-coming artists over the next few years. There are, of course, many others. But if you’ve got a Thomas Nemec or an Alex Jackson on your wall, and you’re in need of a cash injection fast, p2p platform Unbolted has expert valuation partners to determine its value on a secondary market (a worth that is likely to appreciate). This process  usually takes hours, not days and weeks as with traditional lenders. We can then store it securely during the term of our secured asset loan, returning it to you in perfect condition when you’ve settled.
